Policemen rewarded for hard work

Three Police Constables of the Maharagama Police station who had
performed their duties exceptionally were rewarded for their hard work.
The three Police Constables, Herath, Wasantha and Vidyaratne were
presented with cash rewards and commendation letters by DIG Greater
Colombo IM Karunaratne.
The three PCs were instrumental in raiding a drug den at Perakum
Mawatha, Maharagama and arresting a suspect with 40 milligrams of
heroin.
The suspect on being questioned by the Police said that he had bought
the heroin from a woman.
The Police had raided the spot where the woman was alleged to be
staying, but, the woman had given them the slip. Two persons who had
later approached the three policemen with a bribe of Rs 50,000 trying to
persuade them to drop the investigation were also arrested along with
the female suspect who was absconding and produced before Maharagama OIC
Anuradhapura Mahindasiri.
The suspects were subsequently produced in court and remanded. DIG IM
Karunaratne who rewarded the PC’s with Rs 25,000 each appealed to the
media to give equal coverage to the good work done by the Police while
highlighting any police excesses or misdeeds.
‘This will help reduce the crime rate and illegal acts in society.
The media can render a great service to protect peace and harmony in the
country,’ the DIG said. |
