Thalawakele food poisoning incident:

Five including two Principals arrested

Thalawakele Police yesterday arrested five persons including two Principals after 580 students were admitted to several hospitals in the district due to food poisoning on Sunday.

These children were admitted to hospital after having been served meals at a function held in Thalawakele to mark International Children's Day.

This function has been organized by an NGO without prior approval from the education authorities in the area.

The person who undertook the contract to prepare the meal packets was also arrested by the Police.
