SL-Czech Republic to expand ties
Measures have been taken to seek the assistance of the government of
the Czech Republic to start construction work on the proposed
Inginiyagala power plant. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be
signed to this effect, said Prime Minister D M Jayaratne.

Premajayantha, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Secretary to the
Prime Minister S Amarasekera and Lanka Petroleum Corporation
Chairman Harry Jayawardena were also present. |
The Prime Minister was speaking when the Czech Commerce and
Industries Minister Martin Kocourek called on him at the Prime
Minister’s office last Thursday.
The first stage of the proposed Inginiyagala Hydro Power Plant would
cost US $ 35 million.
The Prime Minister said that the National Grid would be greatly
strengthened by this project.
Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha requested the Czech
Republic help modernize the Sapugaskanda oil refinery. The Czech
delegation also promised to help Sri Lanka minimize environment
pollution in Colombo and Kandy and help make these cities eco-friendly.
Prime Minister Jayaratne called for the expanding of commercial ties
between Sri Lanka and the Czech Republic, especially in the tourism
sector.
The PM also called for more student exchanges between the two
countries, especially in the field of science and research.
Ambassador to the Czech Republic Milaslav Staske, Minister of Power
and Energy, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Secretary to the Prime Minister S
Amarasekera and Chairman of Lanka Petroleum Corporation Harry
Jayawardena were present on the occasion. |
