POH scholarship scheme for third successive year

For the third successive year, the POH scholarship awards ceremony
was held at the University Grants Commission Auditorium recently.

Higher Education Minister S B Dissanayake was the chief guest.
The Deans of the relevant faculties and Principals of the relevant
schools, POH scholars and their parents were present on the occasion.
The POH Scholarship scheme commenced in 2009 and is sponsored by
Singaporean Donors Mr and Mrs Poh Beng Swee.
This year the Singaporean donors selected another five students for
the scheme and one more for a period of one year.
The selection is mainly based on the merit passes at the advance
level examination and extracurricular activities.
Objectives and visions for the future and involvement of the social
work, student discipline and continuous progress of their studies are
the key factors for the continuation of the scholarship.
Accordingly, Wenushka Dissanayaka, Shalomi Daniel, Bineshka Deshani,
Wasana Sewwandi, W M L V Wanninayaka and H M Sumudu Herath were awarded
POH scholarships. A medical student receives Rs 15,000, and an
engineering student Rs 12,000 whilst other students receive Rs 9,000 per
month under the ‘POH’ scholarship scheme. |
