Soil erosion hits Walawe

The banks of Walawa ganga in Ambalantota area are subjected to soil erosion due to the excessive illicit felling of long standing giant Kubuk trees and bamboo trees. This soil erosion has caused immense destruction to houses, jak and coconut trees and other plantations and properties on either side of Walawa ganga.


Interim Order issued

Mount Lavinia District Judge M C B S Moraes issued an interim order restraining the respondent in a District Court case, not to prepare and distribute any defamatory documents against the complainant in the case, until further notice.

The complainant Dr Senani Hemantha Dodampahala of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Nawala Road, Nugegoda cited Prof Cyril Randeniya also of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of Kalapaluwawa, Rajagiriya as the respondent.

The judge issued notice and summons and also directed to obtain a report from the Mirihana Police in connection with the complaint of the complainant. At the outset, Senior Attorney Ian Fernando, counsel for the complainant, submitted to court that he is a medical practitioner and his wife is also a medical practitioner and the two children are attending D S Senanayaka College, Colombo.

Senior Attorney Fernando moved court to issue an interim order restraining the respondent in the case not to publish any defamatory reports against the complainant.

Senior Attorney-at-Law Ian Fernando with Attorneys Saumya Perera, Rajitha Lakmal, Keerthi Gunawardena instructed by J M Thahir appeared for the complainant, Dr Dodampahala.


Founder’s Day of Kingston College
