Serpent found in coffin

Pandemonium broke out at a funeral house in Puttalam when a polonga (russel's viper) suddenly emerged from the coffin in which the body was placed.

The incident occurred on Monday (10) at a funeral house in Kalukelle in Puttalam.

The discovery was made a short while after the body was brought home by the funeral undertakers.

It is believed that the serpent may have found its way into the coffin through a hole in its underside from a stack of hay that was lying under the coffin at the funeral parlour.
