Titus Thotawatte passes away

Veteran film and television personality Titus Thotawatte passed away
in a private hospital on Saturday. Thotawatte who was well-known as 'Tie
Mahaththaya' was 82 at the time of his Passing Away.

Thotawatte produced and directed several films in the 1950s, such as
Chandiya, Kawda Hari, Sagarika, Mangala, Sihasuna, Maruwa Samaga Waase.
He later directed the famous children's film Handaya which was said to
be the first children's film in the country. In addition, he has edited
many films including Daskon, Sandesaya, Ranmuthu Duuwa, Deewarayo,
Saravita, Parasathu Mal and many more. Besides, he has directed many
children's programmes for television. He pioneered the art dubbing
children's programmes for television.
Thotawatte was the youngest of three children. He had two elder
sisters. He attended Ananda College, Colombo. After finishing his
studies Thotawatte has joined Dr Lester James Peries and Willie Blake in
the making of Rekava in 1956. |
