Training programme for new councillors

The Local Government and Provincial Council Ministry has organized a two day special training programme for to all members in local government bodies including the newly elected members at the October 8 polls.

Ministry Secretary Dr Nihal Jayathilake told the Daily News that the training programme will commence during the first week of November covering each district. He said that the inaugural training programme is planned to be held in Gampaha.

The programme basically aims at seven aspects including local government law, political ethics, city planning and development, procedures of the local government bodies and coordination with public. About 4100 Local Government members are to take part in this training.
