Man dies in shoot out

A man who was shot at by unidentified gunmen succumbed to his injuries at the Colombo National Hospital on Monday night.

The victim, Sunil Jayantha alias Mahathun 51, was shot at Samurdhi Mawatha, Heiyanthuduwa in the Sapugaskanda police area on Monday around 8.15 pm by two gunmen who came on a motorbike.Sapugaskanda police are investigating.

Patricide

A person died at Ingiriya hospital while he was being treated for two days after an assault by his son on October 29. Police said that J A K Jayaweera 57, of Ingiriya had been kicked on his stomach by his son after a heated argument at their home in St Peter's colony, Ingiriya.

Boy knocked down

A boy of seven years died on admission to the Mannar hospital on Monday after being knocked down by a cab at Moor Street, Mannar. S Abhishek of Pallimunei, West Mannar was walking along the road when he faced the mishap. Mannar police arrested the driver of the cab and Mannar magistrate remanded him till October 9.

Loner succumbs to injuries

A person who was lying by the side of the Biyagama road, opposite a private firm in Gonawala with bleeding injuries on his head, died at the Ragama hospital on Monday. Police said, he was a lonely person who travelled in a wheel-chair and lived in the area for a long time.

The post- mortem was due to be held. Kelaniya Police are investigating. Meanwhile Hikkaduwa police found a body of a woman in a lake near the Wawalgoda railway crossing in Hikkaduwa on Monday night. The woman, Lera Charlotte Wickramasinghe of Galle road, Wewala had injuries on her head, police said.

Cannabis chenas raided

STF officers attached to the Udwalawa camp raided two cannabis chenas and seized 35,000 cannabis plants in two and half acres at Amgakolaara in the Koslanda police area on Monday. No suspects have been arrested.

Meanwhile, Tangalle STF officers took into custody a person who was transporting illegally felled margosa timber in a tractor on the same day.
