Poor service in state institutions

Public officials of certain state institutions remain totally indifferent to letters which are addressed to them. Even reminders are ignored.

I have been corresponding with a state financial institution for over six years, while I was abroad. Receiving no replies to any of my letters, telephone calls, E-mails and fax messages, in August 2011, I visited the particular institution, met an assistant general manager dealing with the subject and explained my predicament in failing to receive even a courtesy reply to my queries.

While the official explained that it is difficult to trace the previous correspondence I was advised to write to the institution setting the background.

This I did the very next day with copies to the chairman and general manager and regrettably I have not received a reply.

Earlier after protracted correspondence in desperation I wrote to the financial Ombudsman!

After prolonged correspondence he advised me that the particular financial institution does not come under the ombudsman scheme. Can anyone please advise what I can do in the present available predicament? D F Francis

National Water Supply and Drainage Board and meter readers

National Water Supply and Drainage Board has not issued water bills for the consumers in Ja-ela and Kandana since June 7, 2011. The meter reader has not visited the premises for the last three and on half months and the consumers are not issued water bills since June.

The consumers worry about the thumping water bills they are going to receive once a meter reader comes back due to the mismanagement of the Water Board.

Consumers have complained to Ja-ela office and to the area manager’s office Kelaniya and have not received any solution so far.

It is very strange to note that the National Water Supply Board Management is unable to appoint a meter reader to issue bills to collect the due revenues. Ultimately they will issue a water bill for many months with arrears calculated on high unit rates. This kind of delays will harass the consumers who are burdened with the cost of living.
