Four new meet records on the third day

The third day of the All Island Schools Athletic Meet saw four new
meet
records being set up at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Sports
Complex Diyagama yesterday.
St Joseph’s Convent, Kegalle dominated the under 19 and 15 relays by
setting up two new meet records. In the under 19 girls 100 x 4 metres
relay, they erased their three year old own record, a timing of 49.47
seconds by finishing the race in less than 1.13 seconds. The under 15
relay team bettered the previous record of Ladies College, Colombo which
they set up in 2006 (51.28 seconds) when they reached the finish line in
51.20 seconds.
In the boys’ 110 metre hurdles event J N Randeniya of Ranabima Royal
College, Gannoruwa entered the record book by finishing the race in
14.41 seconds. He erased Mahesh Perera’s ( St Peter’s College,
Bambalapitiya ) timing of 14.46 seconds, recorded nine years ago.
Another promising athlete Nadeeshani Henderson of Gateway
International
College finished the girls under-19 400 metres, 70 points less than
the earlier recorded timing of Chandrika Subashini of Senanayake
Central, Madampe to set up a new meet record.
So far 17 new meet records have been established while one was
equalled. Today is the final day of the meet and the award ceremony will
be presided over by President Mahinda Rajapaksa who will be the chief
guest. |
