Unsporty conduct by Saunders players

Unruly spectator behaviour and unsporty conduct by several Saunders players marred their FA Cup match against Army Sports Club played at Kelaniya yesterday. The match ended in an exciting one-all draw after Saunders found the equalizer goal in the last few minutes of the game.

Several supporters of Saunders were seen acting in an unruly manner and even going to the extent of threatening some Army officials as well as the referee.

In the meantime, Saunders players were seen conducting themselves in an unsporty manner, in a desperate attempt to win at any cost. It all happened in the second half of the game in which Saunders apparently tried all ethical and unethical tactics to turn the match in their favour.

However, Army players and officials kept their cool and refrained from retaliating and conducted themselves in an exemplary manner.

We earnestly hope the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL) would conduct a proper inquiry and take stern action against the people who had attempted to bring the sport to disrepute.
