Dompe incident: five police officers remanded

Five police officers arrested by the Criminal Investigations
Department (CID) over the death of a suspect in police custody at Dompe
were remanded till October 14 by Gampaha Magistrate, said Police
Spokesman SSP Maxi Proctor. He said that the CID had begun questioning
the arrested police officers regarding the incident.
The Crimes OIC, a sergeant and three police constables were arrested
in connection with the incident which caused a turbulent situation in
Dompe last Friday. The spokesman said that special teams of the STF and
Army have been deployed in the area to ensure peace and security while
maintaining law and order. He noted that the situation in Dompe is back
to normal.
He said that the loss from the property damages due to the incident
is being estimated.
Meanwhile, Mahanama Vithanage our Malwana Group Correspondent
reports: Investigations into the death of G A Gayan Rasanga 29, has been
entrusted to the criminal Investigations Department.
Gayan Rasanga allegedly died on September 29 about 11pm. While in
police custody. He was taken into custody by the Dompe police on charges
of transporting a stolen water pump in his three-wheeler.
The Post Morten into his death was conducted on October 11 at the
Gampaha hospital and Judicial Medical Officer Dr S P A Mewage who
conducted the investigation took action to send parts of the body to the
Government Analyst.
Rasanga’s funeral will be held today at the Horagollawatte public
cemetery. |
