PMB achieves Yala purchasing target

The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has achieved the government's target
of purchasing 75,000 metric tons of paddy during the Yala season, said
PMB chairman K.B. Jayasinghe.
The stock of paddy purchased from Polonnaruwa district topped 21,366
metric tons. The PMB has purchased 3,726 metric tons from North Western
Province, 10,171 metric tons from Ampara, 6,383 metric tons from
Anuradhapura and 4,757 metric tons from the Southern Province.
It has also purchased 221 metric tons from the Northern Province and
3,820 metric tons from the Eastern Province.
Jayasinghe also said that 46,277 metric tons of Nadu and 11,798
metric tons of Samba were purchased by the Board. The PMB pays Rs. 28
for 1kg of Nadu and Rs. 30 for 1kg of Samba. The PMB has 185,000 metric
tons of paddy in stock which was purchased in the last two seasons. The
government estimated a yield of 1.5 million metric tons paddy harvest
during this Yala season. |
