Kalmunai arrests:

Six LTTEers among the suspects

Six LTTE caders were among the 44 suspects who were arrested by the Navy in the Kalmunai high seas when they attempted to leave Sri Lanka illegally to Australia last week, said the TID officers who produced 38 suspects, including two children, before Colombo Chief Magistrate and Additional District Judge Rusmi Singappuli yesterday evening.

The LTTEers have been detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act at the Boossa Camp, the TID officers told court. On an application by the TID officers the judge remanded 36 suspects until September 28. Two children were released on bail on a bond of Rs.100,000 each to their grandparents.

The TID officers told Court that the kingpin who is responsible for this illegal act is missing and moved court to impound his passport and to inform the Controller of Immigration and Emigration about impounding his passport. The TID officers told court that they are conducting investigations into this illegal act and will forward a comprehensive report on the next date.
