Kalmunai arrests:
Six LTTEers among the suspects

Six LTTE caders were among the 44 suspects who were arrested by the
Navy in the Kalmunai high seas when they attempted to leave Sri Lanka
illegally to Australia last week, said the TID officers who produced 38
suspects, including two children, before Colombo Chief Magistrate and
Additional District Judge Rusmi Singappuli yesterday evening.
The LTTEers have been detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act
at the Boossa Camp, the TID officers told court. On an application by
the TID officers the judge remanded 36 suspects until September 28. Two
children were released on bail on a bond of Rs.100,000 each to their
grandparents.
The TID officers told Court that the kingpin who is responsible for
this illegal act is missing and moved court to impound his passport and
to inform the Controller of Immigration and Emigration about impounding
his passport. The TID officers told court that they are conducting
investigations into this illegal act and will forward a comprehensive
report on the next date.
