US lauds Sri Lanka’s
post-conflict recovery
The US government
yesterday commended Sri Lanka for
the positive progress it had made on
its recovery from a deeply damaging
and longstanding conflict. “This is
a very different country from what I
left in May 2009. Most IDPs have
left Menik farm and the rest will
leave as soon as de-mining is
complete,” US Assistant Secretary of

Dad arrested for allegedly
kidnapping own children
A father
suspected of kidnapping his two
children appeared before the
Nugegoda Police along with the two
children yesterday. The children’s
mother had lodged a complaint with
the Mirihana Police on September 5
that her two sons, Savin de Silva, 3
and Chamith, 1, had been kidnapped
by an unknown group.
