Heavy rainfall in catchment areas

Catchment areas of the hydropower reservoirs are receiving heavy rainfall, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) stated. The CEB was in a severe crisis with regard to power generation in the past weeks due to lack of water in the reservoirs.

The Disaster Management Centre has declared Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle and Ratnapura districts prone to landslides, with heavy showers being experienced.
