Ratnam, Renown and Don Bosco move up

Ratnam SC, Renown SC and Don Bosco SC moved up in the points table
when they defeated Nandimitra SC, Java Lane SC and Sri Lanka Navy SC
respectively in the Dialog Champions League Tournament first round stage
five matches concluded over the weekend. Ratnam SC had no difficulty in
overcoming Nandimithra SC at City Football Complex on Sunday. Early
goals came from M M Yogaraja (10th minute) and P S Maduranga (26th
minute) to ensure their victory.
Meanwhile Renown SC had to fight hard against Java Lane for 80
minutes until C M M Rizni hit the ball into the net to bring a 1-0
victory to Renown at Kelaniya Football Ground on the same day.
Don Bosco SC who were in the sixth position in the points table could
pull down Navy SC at their home ground in Negambo on Sunday by defeating
their opponents by 2-1. H H N Janitha got through the Navy defense to
start scoring in the 29th minute. Anyway, in the 52nd minute N Roshan
found the much awaited equalizer. But then K R P Fernando of Don Bosco
destroyed the hopes of the sailors in the 61st minute, clearing the Navy
defense and netting the ball to make it 2-1 by the full time.
Much fancied Saunders ended up drawing their game versus Blue Star SC
at Vernon Fernando Stadium, Kalutara on Sunday when both teams went on
empty handed without goals.
Sri Lanka Police SC made a comeback in the last minute in the game
against New Young’s SC to draw their game 2-2.
The game between the top two teams Army and Air Force also ended in a
one all draw at Air Force Ground, Katunayaka. |
