At least 120 dead in Kenyan pipeline fire

At least 120 people were burned to death on Monday when a pipeline burst into flames in a Nairobi slum as local people were siphoning fuel from it, and more than 100 hospitalised, officials said.

‘Aussies still love dumped ex-PM Rudd’

A year after the Labor Party removed Kevin Rudd as Australia’s prime minister, his popularity is so high he would be able to reverse the party’s failing fortunes if reinstated, a poll showed Monday. Rudd was dumped as leader in a surprise Labor Party coup led by his then deputy Julia Gillard in June 2010 and the party’s standing in opinion polls has plunged ever since.

Taiwan opposition candidate visits US to cement ties

Taiwan’s opposition presidential candidate flew to the United States on Monday in a trip aimed at paving the way for further ties with Washington if her party retakes power next year. “The purpose of the trip is to discuss with the US authorities bilateral ties and a wide range of other issues and set up communication channels,” Tsai Ing-wen, chairwoman of the pro-independence Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), told reporters before jetting off.
