Wide support for Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan delegation at the discussion on “Humanitarian
Operation-Factual Analysis” of Sri Lanka at United Nations

Plantations Industries Minister and President’s envoy on human rights
Mahinda Samarasinghe briefed at the 18th session of the UN Human Rights
Council on the measures taken by the government to protect and promote
human rights in Sri Lanka
According to Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa who was
also in the delegation, many countries, including, China, Pakistan and
the Maldives expressed their support to Sri Lanka at this session.
He said that Maldivian President Mohammed Nasheed, who also
participated in the session, made remarks in support of Sri Lanka.
The minister said that the submission made by the Sri Lankan
delegation was a success. He added that the documentary “Lies Agreed
Upon”, which was produced to keep the international community informed
of what actually happened during the humanitarian operation in Sri
Lanka, was also screened before the Council.
Minister Yapa pointed out that the screening of this documentary
before the UN human rights body is a victory for Sri Lanka. He added
that this documentary gave a clear picture to the member states of the
Human Rights Council of the government’s endeavour to free over 300,000
innocent civilians who were held hostage by the LTTE terrorists at the
last stage of war.
