Maintain high standards - New AG

“You treat me as your mother in order to maintain the high standard
of the Attorney General’s Department,” said new Attorney General Eva
Wanasundara, addressing a young woman employee who came to wish her
after assuming duties as the 26th Attorney General of Sri Lanka.
Earlier, new Attorney General Shanthi Eva Wanasundara, the first
woman Attorney General of Sri Lanka, took oaths before President Mahinda
Rajapaksa at Temple Trees.
When Attorney General Eva Wanasundara arrived at the Attorney
General’s office, Senior Additional Solicitor General Palitha Fernando
received her with a sheaf of betel while President’s Counsel, Additional
Solicitor General Bimba Jayasekera Tilakaratne presented her a bouquet
of flowers.
Senior and junior members of the Attorney General’s Department
assembled at the AG’s chambers to wish the new Attorney General.
“Maintain the high standard of the Attorney General’s Department, I
need your utmost assistance for this purpose,” Attorney General
Wanasundara told senior and junior employees of the Department.
The new Attorney General told senior and junior employees of the
Department that they are free to discuss any matters with her at any
time of the day.
Wanasundara has acted on several occasions as the Attorney General
prior to being appointed as the Attorney General.
‘Eva’ to her dear and near ones, the New Attorney General has a
Master’s Degree in Law from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom.
She had represented Sri Lanka at several important conferences
abroad.
