‘Colombo is your city. Our target is to uplift the living standards of the poor people in Colombo, hence, the ongoing development activities in Colombo city, said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa. The Minister was speaking at the opening ceremony of a community centre built at a cost of Rs 8 million in Mattakkuliya.

He said the government while developing Colombo is also strengthening the living standards of the people.

‘Infrastructure development is taking place giving due consideration to the environment,’ he said.

The Minister also cautioned the public not to fall prey to statements made with malicious intent by certain bankrupt politicians that Colombo city will cater only to the rich class. He said that Colombo will be made a city of haves by uplifting the living standards of low income groups.

‘The era of gaining political mileage by giving false promises will soon be over. No political party will be able to deceive or mislead the public, since the pubic is aware of the truth,’ he said.
