The Sri Lanka Animal Welfare Trust yesterday protested against the
killing of over 700 goats at the annual animal sacrifice ceremony at a
kovil in Chilaw.
According to the Animal Welfare Trust National Organizer Mirisse
Dhammawansa Thera over 300 goats were killed at an animal sacrifice
ceremony last year and now it has doubled.
“We have presented a petition to President Mahinda Rajapaksa with one
million signatures to stop this ceremony,” the Thera said.
The former President J R Jayewardene had banned this animal sacrifice
ceremony in 1980.
According to them new rules and regulations should be introduced. |
