Tourist arrivals top 72,000 in August

Tourist arrivals in Sri Lanka has been 72,463 in August. This amounts
to a 29.6 percent increase over the same period last year.

The majority of the visitors were from Western Europe numbering over
30,000. A Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau source told Daily News
Business that tourism in Sri Lanka is booming with the highest number of
visitors recorded in 30 years.
Visitors from South Asia rose 33.8 percent to 16,136 and arrivals
from Australasia rose by 25.4 percent to 3,641. Arrivals from Eastern
Europe also rose by 23.3 percent compared with the same period last
year.
Arrivals from Germany increased 23 percent numbering over 4,000
visitors.
However arrivals from Australia were up 32 percent to 3,318, visitors
and from France up 42.4 percent compared with the same period last year.
Tourist arrivals for the eight months amounted to 537,787 registering
a 35 percent increase over the same period last year. |
