Treasure hunt thwarted within house

Eight suspects including a man in robes who were digging for a hidden treasure inside a house in Mawila, Marawila were arrested by the Marawila police following a tip-off yesterday morning.

The suspects who had dug a 20 feet deep hole through the foundation of the house had readied to make a sacrifice when police arrived at the scene. Police also seized a tipper, two three wheelers, some digging implements and a tray of offerings from the possession of the suspects.

The suspects were due to be produced before the Marawila Magistrate yesterday.

Investigations are continuing directed by Marawila Police OIC Inspector Saman Padmasiri Perera.
