'President Mahinda Rajapaksa treats all ethnicities alike and wants
to ensure equal treatment to all communities.
'That is why he proposed to appoint a Parliament Select Committee
(PSC) to find a permanent and practical solution for the issues of the
Tamil community,' Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sumedha G. Jayasena
told the Daily News yesterday.
Minister Jayasena said that the PSC is the best way to find a
solution to the problem with the participation of all ethnic groups.
President Rajapaksa paid special attention to develop the North and
East which shows his keeness to help all communities alike.
The two provinces have already achieved significant development just
two years after ending the humanitarian operation.
Minister Jayasena pointed out that all problems faced by the Tamil
community can be directed to the PSC and solutions found through
discussions.
'It is the responsibility of all political parties, the public and
especially the media to support the PSC in order to find a solution.
'In the past whenever a solution surfaced, one or more parties
objected to it. But this time it should not be done and all should think
about our motherland and be together for the sake of the country.
'Sri Lanka needs a wise, honest and a people friendly leader like
President Rajapaksa even after becoming the 'Wonder of Asia'.
'He has already ended terrorism and commenced a massive development
drive especially in the North and East.
'During my 22 years of political life I have never witnessed a leader
like President Rajapaksa who won the hearts of people and members of the
Opposition.
The cream of the UNP is now with him supporting his mission, she
added.
