Three suspects re-remanded

The three suspects who had been detained under the Opium and Dangerous Drugs Ordinance were produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Lanka Jayaratne and further remanded until September 19.

The suspects were charged for attempting to export 53 grams of cocaine via courier, supporting export cocaine and releasing a person who was under arrest.

The Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) uncovered this smuggle following the arrest of a US national Nowalk Corey Philip, Rukmali Kushanthi Weerasekara and Yasantha Sanjaya Nagahawatte in August.

President’s Counsel Upali Gooneratne appeared for Nowalk Corey Philip and Rukmali Kushanthi Weerasekara, while Senior Attorney Thejith Koralage appeared for Yasantha Sanjaya Nagahawatte.

After the submissions made by the PNB, the judge ordered to produce the goods found during the investigations to the Government Analyst.
