Dengue control

Isn't it amazing how a tiny little organism can hold the mankind practically hostage? This just shows how stupid man can be even knowing well the way to overcome them, he does not act. The trial with Cuban bacteria is a point to ponder. Do we need a bacteria to eradicate the simple bacteria from our back yard?

This is a nation which eradicated the deadly small pox and cholera. All we need is common sense. We need to have proper planning and nonstop practices to eradicate this menace. We can easily eradicate this problem if we set our hearts at it. Why aren't we doing it?

Manioc for cancer

It was pleasant to read the article 'My wonder drug for cancer' by Dr Cynthia Jayasuriya in the Sunday Observer on July 24, 2011, where she says manioc can cure cancer.

But considering the following facts I find it difficult to understand why this treatment is not tried at the Maharagama Cancer Hospital.

1) The cost involved is negligible (If any at all)

2) The method of healing is very easy to implement

3) Best case: It heals all the patients; Worst case: it heals none and no side effects unlike in the case of other drugs as the drug itself is a normal food item.

Sri Lanka can export manioc to many countries.

However, it is worth trying, and if it works this simple and practically cost free method deserves much more targeted publicity.

Mind Star on ITN

DFCC Mind Star programme which is telecast on ITN at 9.00 pm on Saturday is a useful programme for the young and old equally. It can be compared to a knowledge bank where one can learn general knowledge on various subjects.

The most important factor in this programme is the manner in which it is presented. It is interesting, very appealing and filled with humour, surprises and suspense. This programme has become most interesting and popular filled with knowledge and fun.
