Java Lane win thriller against Ratnam SC

Java Lane provided maximum entertainment for Slave Island fans at their home ground, City Football Complex when they defeated much fancied Ratnam Sports Club to 2-1 in their stage four soccer match of the Dialog Champions League 2011. Both teams were in control of the ball equally until the half time and in the 55th minute, A W Eranga gave some hope striking a goal. M Badurdeen of Java Lane equaled with a header in the 82nd minute.

With the mounting pressure during the last few minutes of the game, Ratnams could not stop FIFA referee G Robesh awarding a penalty to their opponents where Samarawickrama converted the chance to make it 2-1. The unexpected decision made Ratnam goal keeper Thilakaratne to go beyond the limits and was sent off while other four players were shown yellow cards. Java Lane also conceded four warnings.

Navy beat Blue Star 3-0

Although Blue Star SC looked promising at the start, Navy took it easy to win the game by 3-0 at Welisara on Sunday. Unlucky 13 turned the other way for the sailors as striker E A C Sanjeewa opened scoring at the 13th minute with a beauty.

Christine Fernando made it 2-0 in the next 15 minutes . After the breather in the 64th minute Sanjeewa collected another one to give Navy a comfort victory.

Army SC pulled out a good win against Don Bosco by 1-0 at Ratnapura Public Ground. M N M Fazal stroke in the 24th minute for Army. However unlucky Don Bosco missed the penalty they were awarded when Army custodian saved the well placed kick.

Air Force draw with Police 1-1

Air Force took the early lead in another encounter against Sri Lanka Police SC with T Dissananyake scoring a goal in the 27th minute. A Siriwardena came with an equalizer in the 78th minute to draw the game at their soil, police ground.

Nandimiththra SC and New Young’s SC fought at Kelaniya Football Ground where both teams found it difficult to score a goal against each other. A much awaited battle , Renown Vs Saunders SC was postponed due to bad weather.
