Several varieties of fresh water fish that live on streams, oyas and
rivers in Sri Lanka are in the verge of extinction due to water
pollution and selling them to foreign tourists.
Some farmers wash chemical spray cans in streams after spraying their
paddy fields which also result in the extinction of these fish.
About two decades ago, weli-gowwa, hunga, handaya, thal koraliya,
crabs and prawns were abundant but they cannot be found at present.
