Rs 3,300 million allocated for Divi Neguma:
Massive development in Kalutara

Seventy six thousand families have been selected for the Divi Neguma
programme in the Kalutara district, said Economic Development Minister
Basil Rajapaksa at a meeting of the Kalutara District Development
Committee held at the Kalutara District Secretariat recently.

“The ministry has allocated Rs 3,300 million for this year for the
expenses of the social well-being and development work of the Kalutara
district, covering 283,224 families including the Divi Neguma
beneficiaries,” the minister said.
The money was allocated by the minister, for development work in 14
AGA divisions, 762 grama niladhari divisions, 2,514 villages and 8
electorates, in 1,607 square kilometres of the Kalutara district.
Rajapaksa instructed the officials to spend the financial allocations
for the restoration and development work and for the citizen’s
well-being. minister Rajapaksa said that this money can be utilized for
road carpeting programmes, village development programmes (‘Gama Neguma’),
Samurdhi development programmes, and also for the tsunami-affected
small-scale irrigation projects and repairs of canals and paddy lands in
the district.
The minister pointed out that pre-schools can be supplied with the
necessary expenses for their study materials and ‘kids’ playgrounds and
furniture.
Besides, children’s and maternity homes, toilet facilities too can be
benefitted through this money.
Rs 3,506 lakhs for Kalutara, Rs 3,704 lakhs for Horana, Rs 3,540
lakhs for Panadura, Rs 3,806 lakhs for Bulathsinhala, Rs 3,677 lakhs for
Bandaragama, Rs 4,710 lakhs for Agalawatte, Rs 3,658 lakhs for Mathugama,
and Rs 3,516 lakhs for the Beruwala AGA divisions have been allocated,
to cover up the year 2011.
