New batch for Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management

The Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management conducted by the Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) 2011/2014 batch was inaugurated at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on August 28 in the presence of Director Training Dr Kingsley Wickremasuriya, two of the vice Presidents of ISMM I. G. Perera and Anil Ponweera.

Course participants

According to the Director Training Dr.Kingsley Wickremasuriya, this year ISMM has received a huge number of applications for this course and 70 students were selected after a rigorous selection process. This is a very clear indication that the supply chain profession is in demand and there is a shortage of qualified professionals to fill the market demand. ISMM has produced more than 10,000 professionals during the last 39 years out of which 507 have undergone the three year diploma and most of them are holding senior managerial positions in both public and private sector organizations.

ISMM is the only professional body in supply chain management that was incorporated by an act of parliament in Sri Lanka and affiliated to the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) based in the UK and the International Trade Centre in Geneva Switzerland.

Those who successfully complete the three year Graduate Diploma in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management, which also include a research module at the end of the three years of course work, are entitled to obtain the corporate membership of the institute after fulfilling the required experience in the field. Corporate membership of ISMM is being recognised by the Sri Lanka government as equivalent to a First or Second Class Honours Degree relevant to the field of supply and materials management awarded by a recognized university.

Two course directors of the GDPSCM 2011/2014 batch Gayan Perera and Harsha Sirimanna mentioned that the GDPSCM is an interactive course which will help students not only to gain knowledge but also will give them an opportunity to sharpen their skills and share their experience to become a professional in supply chain management by getting involved in group discussions, presentations, assignments, cases studies, role plays, field trips and various other activities.

More information on the GDPSCM and ISMM can be obtained by visiting their website www.ismmsrilanka.com or by contacting Director Training Dr.Kingsley Wickremasuriya or Assistant Training Manager Devika Bibile.
