Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena has been
appointed acting Ports and Highways Minister until President Mahinda
Rajapaksa who is the Ports and Highways Minister returns to the country,
a release issued by the Deputy Minister’s office said yesterday.
Fourth Randoli Perahera today

The fourth Randoli Perahera of Kandy Esala Pageant will parade the
streets today.
The perahera will commence at 8.30 pm from the Maligawa premises and
proceed along Dalada Veediya, Yatinuwara Veediya, Haras Veediya,
Kotugodella Veediya, Kande Veediya and DS Senanayake Veediya.
Scientific sessions
The Sri Lanka Heart Association (SLHA) has organized its 11th
pre-congress scientific sessions today at Lanka Hospitals. This session
will include four live heart procedures of complex coronary
interventions. All these live cases will be operated at the
Catheterization Theater of Lanka Hospitals.
Cardiologists including Dr. Mathew Samuel Kalarickal of Apollo
Hospitals, Chennai and Dr. Praween Agarwal of Fortis Escorts Heart
Hospital, New Delhi will participate
Forest fire destroys over 300 acres
Yasaratne GAMAGE
A forest fire at Lihiniyagalakanda in the Sarasumtenna GN division in
Walapane destroyed over 300 acres of forest. The fire was put off by an
Air Force helicopter with the assistance of the Disaster Management
Centre, yesterday.
Batticaloa clash: 30 receiving treatment
Thirty persons including five police constables injured in
Wednesday’s clash at Ottamawadi, Batticaloa are warded at the Batticaloa
Teaching and Valachchenai Base hospitals.

University of Edinburgh Department of Anthropology Professor Jonathan
