Thomians take under 14 rugby title
S Thomas' College, Mount Lavinia clinched the Cup Championship of the
Milo Schools All Island Under 14 ten-a-side Rugby Tournament with a
smashing 28 points (four goals) to 7 (one goal) win over traditional
rivals Royal College, Colombo in the final played at Royal Sports
Complex yesterday after leading 14-7 at the breather.
Royal opened scoring through a try by Manjitha de Silva which was
converted by skipper Mohamed Sajaad but the Thomians came back storming
to cross the Royal goal line twice through V E C Perera and S N Bhavan
with Hans Walpola adding the extra points to both tries.
The Thomians dominated the second half to score two more tries
through V E C Perera (one) and K C S A Nanayakkara (one) with Hans
Walpola converting both tries and the Thomians ran out worthy winners by
28 points to 7.
In the semi-finals S Thomas' beat Isipatana 14-7 while Royal overcame
St Peter's by 28 points to 21.
St Joseph's College, Colombo bagged the Plate Championship with a 7
points (one goal) to nil win over Dharmaraja College, Kandy in the
final.
In the semi-finals St Joseph's beat Lumbini 28-7 while Dharmaraja
overcame Science College 7-nil.
Wesley College, Colombo took the Bowl Championship with a runaway 47
points (six goals, one try) to nil win over Panadura Royal in the final.
Wesley crushed St Sylvester's 40-nil in the semi-final while Panadura
Royal edged out Lalith Athulathmudali MV by 6-0 in the other semi-final. |
