Attempts to remove whale carcass abandoned
Suraj A Bandara and P. Dharmasena
The attempt to remove the remains of a giant 70-feet long whale which
had beached behind the Asiri hotel in Kamburugamuwa, Matara was in vain
as all the ropes snapped due to the weight of the carcass.
The Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha with the support of Coast Guard Force
tried throughout the night to remove the carcass and bury it. Several
backhoes and ropes were used to pull the carcass but as it was stuck
between the rocks it was impossible to remove.
A large number of people visited the scene to witness the rare
spectacle.
