KOICA helps technical training:
New computer lab for Balapitiya TC
The Technical Education and Training Department (DTET) Director
General Dr Chithral Ambawatta and Korea International Cooperation Agency
(KOICA) Sri Lanka office Deputy Resident Representative Choi Young-mee,
opened the newly built two storeyed Electrical and Computer Lab at the
Balapitiya Technical College (TC) on July 29.
The project was designed and completed by KOICA senior volunteer,
Kang Ki-Nam, in cooperation with the TC for eight months under KOICA’s
technical cooperation scheme to Sri Lanka.
Kang has been dispatched as an electrical engineering senior
instructor to the Balapitiya TC upon his arrival in Sri Lanka in January
2010. After coming across various difficulties and inadequacies there,
he launched the project to build the electrical and computer lab in
November 2010 and completed in July 2011.
The lab is equipped with 20 new computers, CCTV system, Multimedia
and Solar power system.
The computer lab provides a better education environment to students.
As part of the technical cooperation programmes, KOICA sends
volunteers with appropriate skills and technologies to universities,
schools and institutes in Sri Lanka to share knowledge and experience
with their counterparts to build man power capacity.
