St Joseph's, Gampola - athletic champions

Central Province Athletic Championship was held at the Bogambara
Stadium, Kandy from July 4 to 7 in which 7400 athletes participated from
700 schools in the Central Province.

The closing ceremony was held under the patronage of the Chief
Minister of Central Province, Sarath Ekanayake.
A special feature was the participation of triplets at the under 21
age group, students of St Joseph's College, Gampola.
They are Thakshila, Wathsala and Sakunthala Karunathilake. They were
born on the February 15, 1992 with a difference of five minutes each.
They helped their school St Joseph's College, Gampola to become
champions in the girls events collecting 87 points.
The Eldest Thakshila won the Long Jump, Wathsala got the 2nd place in
400 metres Hurdles, while the youngest Sakunthala won the 400 metres
flat race with a record time of 60.2 secds.
All three participated in the 4x400 and 4x100 winning relay teams
along with Hansika Wathsaramalee.
