Sangakkara guides Kandurata

Former Sri Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara hammered a splendid 85 as Kandurata Province defeated Wayamba Province by 11 runs in their SLC Inter Provincial Twenty20 cricket tournament match worked off at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

The dashing left hander hoisted four sixes and struck eight boundaries during his 46 ball innings as Kandurata piled up a formidable 186 for 5 from their 20 overs having put into bat.

Sangakkara and Jehan Mubarak figured in a third wicket partnership of 91 runs from just nine overs before Angelo Perera added the finishing touches with an unbeaten 36 from 15 balls stroking two boundaries and three sixes.

Wayamba Province in reply lost half of their side for just 52 runs in seven overs before Indika de Saram and Kaushalya Weeraratne brought them closer to the target with a sixth wicket stand of 74 runs.

Kandurata Province: 186 for 5 in 20 overs (T. Paranavithana 25, K. Sangakkara 85, J. Mubarak 30, A. Perera 36 n.o, R. Jaleel 2 for 18)

Wayamba Province: 175 in 20 overs (T. Samaraweera 34, I. de Saram 46, K. Weeraratne 32, T. Perera 30 n.o, M. Muralitharan 2 for 29, F. Maharoof 2 for 42)
