Post poll security to continue for two days

A special post election security programme has been put into place since yesterday and will be effective for two days, Police spokesman Prishantha Jayakody told the Daily News yesterday.

He said that mobile police units and motorcycle squads deployed for the Local Government elections will continue their operations to ensure peace and security during the post election period.

He said that a total of 106 incidents of election law violations had been reported while 134 individuals had been taken into custody. He said that no major incident had been reported post elections except a few minor incidents. He observed that overall, the security situation through out the polls had been extremely satisfactory.
