Govt greatly appreciates people’s verdict

‘The decision taken by people of the North and East at the recently concluded Local Government Elections is greatly appreciated by the government’, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said.

”The vast majority of the country has accepted the Mahinda Chinthana programme. In addition, development programmes, such as, Divi Neguma, Gama Neguma, Maga Neguma which are being carried out to uplift the villages are also highly appreciated and accepted by the people.

Infrastructure facilities and other facilities are upgraded through these development programmes,” the minister added when he was asked about the recently concluded LG elections. The minister further added that it is significant that a majority of government servants are with the government. The government’s agricultural policy has been attested by the farmer community in Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Moneragala who have overwhelmingly vote for the United People’s Freedom Alliance. ‘We accept the verdict of the Northern people, the minister said.’

He noted that a TNA MP had engaged in the propaganda campaign in a way which can harm ethnic harmony. He showed photos and videos of the 1983 Black July to the people aiming to create hatred. It is regrettable that, some people resort to such actions with the aim of ruining ethnic harmony and friendly atmosphere. These things are done to gain political mileage.

‘However, the lesson we were taught by this election is that people have to be made aware regarding the massive development initiatives conducted by the government. This awareness campaign has to be carried out not only during election times but everyday.’
