Israeli tank fire injures seven Gazans
Gaza Strip: Seven people have been injured in an attack by Israeli
tanks on the Gaza Strip, which was the fifth successive day of Israeli
assaults on the Palestinian territory. Four children were among the
wounded after Israeli tanks opened fire on Gaza in the early hours of
Sunday morning, a Press TV correspondent reported.
Tel Aviv justifies its attacks on Gaza by saying they are
self-defense measures in response to rockets fired into southern Israeli
towns from the Gaza Strip. However, Gaza’s democratically elected Hamas
government has said that Israel is only making excuses to attack the
blockaded territory.
On Saturday, rescue teams discovered the body of a young man killed
in an Israeli aerial attack on a tunnel between the southern city of
Rafah and Egypt.Israel regularly pounds the tunnels, accusing
Palestinian resistance fighters of using the cross-border passages for
smuggling and storing weapons.
But Gazans reject the allegations, maintaining that the tunnels are
used to bring badly needed supplies into the region, which has been
under an Israeli siege since mid-2007.
