Certain TN politicians engaged in despicable propaganda against SL - Azwer

‘Certain vicious elements in Tamil Nadu attempt to cause embarrassment and discomfort to the Tamil population of Sri Lanka by engaging in destructive, deceitful and despicable political propaganda across the Palk Straits,’ A.H.M. Azwer, MP said.

He said the government of President Mahinda Rajapaksa has removed all impediments placed on the Tamil people during the 30 years of war and had begun massive development projects in the North and East.

Azwer was addressing the concluding sessions of the 15th Islamic - Tamil Literary Conference held in Kayalpattanam in Tamil Nadu.

Shiekh Vavoo Abdul Rahman, Chairman of the Kayalpattanam Town Council presided.

Azwer said that in Sri Lanka today the Tamil language has been given equal opportunity with the Sinhala language and as a result Hindu and Islamic culture, literature and education is blooming all round the country with zest and colour.

He invited Tamil Nadu politicians who cried foul, to visit Sri Lanka so that they will be amazed to see the peace and freedom enjoyed by the Tamil speaking people.

The Vel chariots wend through the city of Colombo and in other towns. Temple festivals are held right throughout the country, Thiruvalluvar and Kamban Vizhas are held with pomp and pageantry.

Tamil short stories, novels and other literature are released in hundreds monthly.

One could safely mention that development of Tamil language, Tamil literature, arts, music is rapidly taking its rightful place within the paradigm of a Sri Lankan cultural revival.

Azwer expressed the desire that books published by Tamil and Muslim writers in Sri Lanka should be released in Tamil Nadu as much as Tamil books and literature printed in Tamil Nadu are being released ceremoniously in Colombo and in other places of the country.
