For commuter convenience:

Destination boards allocated colours

Destination boards of long distance private buses(inter provincial level) will be colour coded for easy identification by commuters.

National Transport Commission’s Transport Director Vipula Hewa Valimuni said buses belonging to normal, semi luxury, luxury and super luxury categories currently ply the roads in Sri Lanka.

‘Perhaps commuters just do not recognize the destination boards on buses. They could get confused reading vague letters written in various colours on different colour backgrounds on destination boards.

‘That is why we have decided to introduce four colour codes for destination boards of long distance private buses plying on inter provincial routes.’

He said normal, semi luxury, luxury and super luxury buses operating on inter provincial routes will have uniform destination boards with four colours, light blue, purple, light green and yellow on their backgrounds.

He said a light blue background will be introduced for destination boards of semi luxury buses while a purple background will be used on luxury bus destination boards. Light green and yellow will be introduced as background colours for destination boards of super luxury buses and normal buses respectively.

He further said destination boards of long distance private semi luxury buses (inter provincial level) are being colour corded currently. “We have already colour coded destination boards of semi luxury private buses plying between Colombo and Kataragama.

There are 350 semi luxury private buses plying on the Colombo-Kataragama route and their destination boards will be colour coded within two months.
