Rain in catchment areas

Most catchment areas are experiencing rains, Meteorology Department Duty forecaster Chaminda de Silva told the Daily News yesterday. He predicted that there will be heavy rains in these areas today and tomorrow.

He said the Laxapana reservoir recorded 55.1mm rainfall on Saturday while Norton recorded 46.3mm. Canyon, Kothmale, Maussakele and Castlereagh reservoirs had also experienced rainfall ranging between 13mm and 24mms. He said that Randenigala and Victoria have not recorded considerable rainfall yet.

He also predicted fairly strong winds in the South Western parts of the island today.

De Silva said that showers may occur in the Western, Southern and Central Provinces and Galle and Matara today. Showers can also extend to the North Western province.
