Rise in dengue cases, deaths

The total number of dengue cases since the beginning of this year has risen to 11,901 while dengue deaths have risen to 93, Health Ministry Epidemiology Unit statistics revealed.

According to latest updates 1,684 dengue patients had been reported in July. Sixteen people had died of dengue this month.

Among them, 776 dengue patients were reported from Colombo.

With this addition, the total dengue cases within the Colombo district since the beginning of this year had risen to 4,632 with 37 dengue deaths.

Gampaha district is the second worst affected by dengue with 1,497 cases and 15 deaths. Statistics also revealed that dengue cases in Badulla has been increasing this month. The unit requested public participation to curb dengue.
