SLPL postponed
Sri Lanka Cricket yesterday announced that the inaugural edition of
the Sri Lanka Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament has been
postponed to next year.
Attempts to obtain the release of the Indian players were
unsuccessful, causing a delay in the naming of the final composition of
the SLPL teams which then had an impact on making related arrangements
in an effective and timely manner.
Therefore, SLC and the SLPL Committee find that there is insufficient
time to arrange a tournament of this magnitude this year, within the
available window. It has therefore been decided, to postpone the
inaugural version of the SLPL by one year.
The Inter Provincial T 20 tournament will however be held during this
period as it was played in the past, with 5 provincial teams, to enable
the winning team to participate in this year’s Champions League T20
tournament. |
