India train death toll rises to 69
Rescue teams using sniffer dogs searched for
bodies and survivors Monday in the mangled remains of two Indian
passenger trains that derailed at the weekend, killing 69 and
injuring 200.

Syrians rally to back reforms
Hundreds of thousands of Syrians have taken to
the streets in the coastal city of Latakia, raising the country’s
national flag and voicing support for reforms promised by the Syrian
president. The demonstrators carried what they called world’s
biggest national flag, 16 kilometers long and four meters wide, as a
sign of support for the reform program initiated by President Bashar
al-Assad and rejected foreign meddling in the country’s internal
affairs, Syrian Arab News Agency reported on Sunday.

Ten Israeli aircraft enter Lebanon
Ten Israeli military aircraft have once again
penetrated Lebanese airspace and flown over parts of the country in
blatant violation of a UN Security Council resolution. Six Israeli
warplanes flew over the border village of Kfar Kila, located 96
kilometers (59 miles) south of the capital Beirut, at 9:50 a.m.
(0650 GMT) on Sunday and conducted several unwarranted flights above
areas in southern Lebanon, a statement released by the Lebanese
military read.

Strauss-Kahn case:
Pressure mounts
A New York state senator and a coalition of
women’s rights groups and community leaders gathered Sunday to
defend Tristane Banon, the alleged victim of former IMF chief
Dominique Strauss-Kahn and demand the prosecution continue the
sexual assault case. “We are here to ask the District Attorney to do
his job. We ask (DA) Vance to let the victim have her day in court,”
said New York Democratic Senator Bill Perkins at a news conference
in Harlem.
