Minister writes to IGP on vehicle plates issue
Public Relations and Public Affairs Minister Dr Mervin Silva in a
letter to IGP N K Illangakoon yesterday said that he has instructed his
staff to remove the WPC 2010-2011 number plates in vehicles used by him
in accordance with the order given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
The minister has instructed his staff to use the registered plates
that have been issued by the Registrar of Motor Vehicles.
The minister has urged the IGP to take appropriate action against
those who misuse his good name by driving vehicles bearing WPC 2010/2011
plates.
Minister Dr Mervin Silva said that he was using vehicles bearing WPC
2010/2011 garage plates, also known as CC plates, due to security
reasons.
The letter:
“Due to security reasons, I am currently using vehicles bearing
WPC-2010/2011 garage plates also known as CC plates.
“Bearing in mind the recent order given by his HE the President, I
have given instructions to my ministry staff to immediately notify the
said vehicle owners to immediately remove the WPC-2010/2011 plates and
instead to use the registered plated that have been issued by the RMV.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my fullest
cooperation to the relevant authorities to take appropriate action
against those individuals who misuse my good name to their advantage
when apprehended using the WPC – 2010/2011 plates.
“I would greatly appreciate your support in regard to this matter.”
