Lyceum comes of age:

Mature and Majestic

Lyceum International, Nugegoda students at the 18th anniversary ceremony

Lyceum turns 18 years old. It is indeed an invaluable milestone in the history of the institution, the brainchild of Mohan Lal Grero. It had always been his endeavour to share the immense academic and moral benefits which had accrued to him through education.

Thus, Lyceum International School was born on June 14, 1993. It began with seven students and four teachers, housed in two classrooms and an administrative office. Today, this very same school has expanded adequately enough, to include areas which lie outside the city of Colombo. Including the parent school, situated in Nugegoda, the arteries spread out to Wattala, Kandana, Panadura, Gampaha and Ratnapura. At present all the schools have a total number of academic and Non-Academic Staff of 1800 and the student population numbers around 12,500 islandwide.

Each and everyone of these schools is fully equipped with airy classrooms, air conditioned state of the art libraries and laboratories where students can pursue their academic commitments in a conducive atmosphere. At Lyceum, games and sports play a major role in the lives of the children.

This is facilitated by football fields, basketball courts, cricket pitches, grounds, synthetic tracks and swimming pools. Tennis, Badminton and Karate are some of the other sports.

Extra Curricular activities include drama, chess, debating, public speaking and scrabble.

All extra curricular activities add upto 46.

Children belonging to every caste, creed and religion are welcome. The day is begun with prayers taken from all the four major religions of Sri Lanka and with this aura of spiritual peace the students proceed with the days routine.

In Lyceum, it is clearly evident that even though the students and teachers work and play together, bound together by dynamism and energy, there is a heightened sense of discipline and restraint in all the activities. There is a unique awakening of a awareness.

There are staff members who have been with the school for 18 years. There are new members of staff who learn from the loyalty and dedication of the senior members.

The dedicated and competent administrators have formed a formidable and fortified team which provide adequate support to the Managing Director Mohan Lal Grero and Coordinating Principal, Kumari Grero. So far three past pupils of Lyceum have become Principal and two Deputy Principals.
