Navy out to remain unbeaten by beating Police today
The Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club will strive to preserve their unbeaten
record when they play host to Sri Lanka Police in their Caltex 'A'
Division League rugby match at Welisara today.
The sailors have notched up three smashing wins over Army (12-5), Air
Force (19-8) and CH and FC (24-18) and held the formidable CR and FC to
an 18-all draw but face a strong challenge from the Policemen.
The law enforcement officers have registered two impressive wins over
CR and FC (11-10) and CH and FC (17-13) and went down fighting to Air
Force (12-18) and Kandy SC (11-22).
The forte of both teams are their power-packed forwards.
The Navy 'eight' led by dynamic flanker Yoshitha Rajapaksa will have
the services of Sathya Ranatunge, Kalana Amarasinghe, Danushka Perera,
Sumedha Malewana and Namal Rajapaksa who will be confronted by Police's
Malith Hettiarachchi, Sivadasan, Romesh Archarige, Gemunu Indrachapa,
Nishantha Welagedera and the omnipresent flanker skipper T.D.
Seneviratne.
Last year's runners up CR and FC should notch up their third win for
the season when they take on Sri Lanka Army at Longden Place today.
The Red Shirts' three quarters gave a pleasing display last week with
fly half Reza Mubarak playing a key role in their success.
His daring breaks had the Havelocks defence in disarray last week
ably supported by centre Mushin Faleel, winger Vishwamithra Jayasinghe
and that attacking full back Mohamed Sheriff and should be strengthened
by the return of Sri Lanka player Lasintha de Costa.
The soldiers have lost all four matches to Navy (5-12), Havelocks
(13-36), Kandy SC (6-51) and Air Force (13-53) and will strive to
restrict CR with some resolute tackling. |
